About PhoneBot

PhoneBot is a smartphone-based humanoid research platform presented in October 2026 by Ruochen Hou, Quanyou Wang, Daniel Koh and Dennis W. Hong. The project lists a height of 48.3 cm, a mass of 1.8 kg including the phone, and 13 powered joints. The phone supplies its camera, inertial sensors, wireless connectivity and high-level processing; a separate onboard computer communicates with the actuators over Wi-Fi commands from the phone. Official hardware videos demonstrate remotely controlled walking and recovery from lying down. The research paper also describes vision-based following, conversational interaction, filming and mobile telepresence. These are research demonstrations, not a claim of consumer-ready autonomy. The project estimates hardware at approximately US$400 excluding the smartphone; this is not a retail offer or an independently verified build budget. Photos are official project images, resized and padded for display. Project: https://phonebot.dev/ | Paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2610.08737
